Nadal And Williams Win Wimbledon
The destination of the men’s and women’s singles titles at the 2008 Wimbledon Tennis Championships were decided at the weekend as Venus and Serena Williams met on Centre Court to contest Saturday’s Women’s Singles title, and the world’s top 2 men engaged in arguably the finest Men’s Singles Final of the modern era, if not ever.
If I was playing anyone else I wouldn''t have to face what I had to face today, so it's impossible to forget.” On Sunday, the much anticipated and predicted Men’s final between Raphael Nadal and Roger Federer lived up to the hype and more in what was widely accepted as one of the best games of tennis ever to have taken place on Centre Court. The previous two Men’s Finals at Wimbledon had seen Nadal pushing the seemingly unplayable Federer to the limit, and this continued as the Spaniard took the first two sets 6-4 6-4 but the defending champion took him to a tiebreak and won the next 7-6. He carried the momentum forward by winning the next tiebreak to make it 2-2; a level field again with two consecutive sets behind him, and a very real chance of eclipsing Bjorn Borg’s record of 5 consecutive Wimbledon titles, which he equalled last year.
Ultimately, Nadal’s immense power and inexhaustible supply of energy saw him edge the deciding set 9-7, having saved break point on his serve at 3-4.
There was a British presence at the final, however, but only in the form of sporadic rain that stopped play on several occasions.

They were great matches! A pleasure to watch. It was too bad the rain delayed it like it did. I wonder if the Williams sisters are happy with each other when, of course, only one of them can win!
