Switch On to Paddypowerpoker.com ‘Battle of the Mags’ TV Grand Final
Europe’s best battle it out
Paddypowerpoker.com has announced details of the Grand Final of their innovative Battle of the Mags competition. On the 8th November, readers of Europe’s major poker magazines will compete in a televised single table tournament for the Battle of the Mags title and more than £14,000 worth of top poker tournament entries.
The Grand Final is to be held in London, and will see players from Ireland, the UK, Poland, Germany, Romania, and Denmark competing on behalf of their favourite magazines.
The stakes are especially high as there’ll be no prize for second place. The winner takes it all – no chance to fold into the money. As well as the prestigious Battle of the Mags title, the winner gets free entry to the €3 Million Guaranteed 2008 Irish Open as well as two EPT circuit events of their choice. This bumper prize package is worth more than £14,000.
Sitting at the final table will be:
| Magazine | Player | Country |
|---|---|---|
| Antepost | Grzegorz Swieboda | Poland |
| Cardplayer | Krzysztof Zajac | Poland |
| Flush | Daniel Ernstberger | Germany |
| Gambling Online Magazine | Farcus Radu | Romania |
| Online Gambler | Lars Henrik Buschmann Nielsen | Denmark |
| Poker Europa | Ronan McLughlin | Ireland |
| Poker Pro Europe | John Donnelly | Ireland |
| Total Poker | Tina Walker | UK |
To reach the heady heights of the final, contestants took part in freerolls offered by the participating magazines over the summer. The top brass from each mag will now lock horns in front of the TV cameras. The Grand Final will premiere on Sky TV channel 843 at 8pm on Friday 14th December, and will be repeated throughout the following week.
Paddy Power, communications manager for paddypowerpoker.com, is pleased with how well Battle of the Mags is going. “Each of the online tournaments attracted large fields of high quality players and it would not surprise me at all if the Battle of the Mags champion went on to a huge payday at either the Irish Open or the EPT.” he says. “It is obvious from the standard of play we have seen that the players have gained a real expertise in the game and learnt from the excellent strategic advice they read in their favourite magazines.”
