Obama Bizarrely Backed For Soccer Job

Presidential candidate Barack Obama is named as the next manager of English soccer team West Ham United.

Despite West Ham’s best start to the season in nine years, Curbishley beat Kevin Keegan from fellow Premiership team Newcastle United as the first managerial casualty of the new season. Online bookmaker Bet365.com has installed former player and the current boss of the Croatian national team, 39-year-old Slaven Bilic, as the 5/2 favourite to take over from the Londoner but one punter decided to put his stake on a long shot.

“The client, a London-based businessman who is a frequent visitor to the States, asked for a price about Obama to be the new Hammers'' boss and explained that he wants the betting slip to show to his American friends and clients,” said Graham Sharpe, Spokesperson for William Hill.

“We did a little research and discovered that Obama has indeed been reported as saying that he follows West Ham. We offered odds of 10,000/1 as he is probably more concerned with winning a slightly higher profile job for himself at the moment but if he loses out on that one and the position is still up for grabs, you never know.”

William Hill is currently quoting Obama as the 4/9 favourite to beat 13/8 rival John McCain to become the next President of the United States in November.

Ok........ That's probably the most bizarre thing I've ever heard-a US presidential candidate getting odds on being West Ham manager. They need someone but I don't think they are that desperate!

....and this was mentioned in the RNC? This missed a whole line of zingers here. We've got a Pit Bull and now a Hammer.

Unless he does lose this coming election I don't think he would be too worried about the job offer, but it is an offer still so maybe he will look at it if he does lose.

That would be so damn funny seeing him dressed up as a mngr for a team like this. I wonder how it will all work out if he does not make the prez. deal.

This is probably one of the most unusual bets to be made but it does make for fun reading. I find it even more interesting to see the odds on the US presidential race, though. Anyone placing a wager on that particular race?

Anyone think this could relate to his newest faux pas about putting lipstick on a pig? Hammers sounds piggy.
