Online Casino Operators Negotiating Settlement With Kentucky
The state of Kentucky wants online gambling kept out of their state, using the logic that too much money is being lost to online gaming sites that could be spent gambling on state-sponsored activities.
A court hearing has been set for 3:30 today, but as the hearing approaches, negotiations are under way to settle the case before the hearing takes place. The way Kentucky got the online operators to negotiate was to try and acquire the rights to their domain names – if they seized the domain names, the state government would be able to shut down the sites.
In addition to just blocking people from Kentucky on their sites, the state also wants the online operators to pay for damages for lost revenue the state had to endure.
Governor Steve Beshear, who is a proponent of casino gambling, feels that the many legal gambling options have been hurt economically by the existence of online gambling in the state. He is concerned that these online sites are not taxed and regulated.

I really do not get this, it would be one of the few other states to allow gambling and it could still bring in tons of money for 'adults' with local places as well.

I really hope that this does get thrown out. There's currently no way of enforcing this on a national level so why should one state get to do this?

That is what I am thinking too. I was brought up "the more the merrier" I would still visit KY for the horse races, but seriously this could be a downfall for them big time.

Will they really have to do this? "pay for damages for lost revenue the state had to endure"

It will be interesting to see what comes of this at the next hearing date on October 7. Hopefully the judge sees this as frivolous and unfair and tosses the whole thing out the window.

This is ridiculous and should be tossed out of court without a second glance. The whole thing boils down to online gambling somehow taking away from the state's own horse race wagering and the governor didn't get his share of the cut from online gambling. Shame on him and on the initial court finding that allowed him to get away with the farce.
