Top Ten Tips For Poker

Tips for winning the game of skill.

While Poker has always been popular in certain areas of the world, the power of the internet has taken the sport to a whole new level. Millions of people now enjoy the game, whether playing at the local casino, with friends or online on many of the Poker sites available. While the online business has been temporarily effected by the restrictions on playing Poker online in the US, many believe that this is just a short term situation with moves a foot to overturn the ban.

While each and every player will have their own unique style and way of playing, here are a selection of simple tips to ensure that you give yourself the best chance of winning :-

1. Do not gamble more than you can afford. Many people fall into the trap of spending that little extra than they can afford, which puts more pressure on each hand they play. Put aside what you can afford to lose, and do not go over the limit, that way you will live to fight another day if it does not quite work for you.

2. Never show any emotion. The best Poker players in the world are the ones who show no emotion, they sit at the table straight faced even if they have the best hand in the world. Remember, it is possible to bluff your way through a game if you are positive, but you cannot afford to give anything away.

3. Stay focused. One of the main skills which you need to develop when playing Poker is concentration. Some games can go on for a long while, and it is essential that you remain fully in control and focused.

4. Be sensible. If your hand gives you little chance of winning, and you get the impression that others at the table may have decent hands, do not try and force it, there is no shame in folding.

5. Keep varying your style and actions. It can often prove beneficial to vary the speed at which you play your games, in order to confuse the opposition. Many opponents will study how you play, and try to figure out if you are holding a good hand.

6. Don’t bluff too often. There is a skill to bluffing your opponents, but it will not work if you do it too often - keep it in mind, but only for special occasions.

7. Remember that playing Poker for fun and playing for cash are two totally different games - do not expect to move from playing for fun to playing for money and step up straight away.

8. Watch how your opponents react to hands, how quickly they make decisions and their betting patterns.

9. Keep an eye on the cards which have been dealt in each hand. This is a skill which will come in time, although the quicker you learn how to remember the cards which have been dealt the better - it can often help when playing the percentage game.

10. Enjoy! Those who are most successful at Poker, whether online or at the casino, actually enjoy the game. The more you enjoy it, the less tense you will be and the more chance of success.

Stay focused, don’t take too many risks and above all, enjoy!
