I wonder how they can guarantee such a thing. I mean if the business is simply not there then how are they able to afford payouts that large?

It's similar to the lottery. When you drive by the sign that says the payout is 100,000 million, it makes people more likely to buy a ticket. Rising ticket sales boost the prize pot even higher. Just by saying their prizes are that high will be an incentive for many people to play.

I think serina has it right. If more people play because they are supposedly boosting payouts, they will payout more because more are playing, but not necessarily winning big.

I'm sure this will definitely boost sales....like others mentioned, it works in lots of other marketing ploys. Are they 'really' going to boost payouts that much, though?

I think that by saying they are boosting the payouts they are hoping that will draw more business. I mean, wouldn't a person be more willing to try them out after reading they are boosting the payouts?
