Games of Skill vs Games of Chance
Here is an age old question that one needs to often think about. Should a person go about trying to conquer games of skills like blackjack and poker? Or maybe just stick to riding out the systems and even money bets of roulette and baccarat.
The chances of winning in the chance games like roulette and baccarat are always more uncontrollable. If you manage to hit a good streak of cards, you can walk away with a modest amount of money and call it day without using your brain too much. If you happen to lose, well, everybody has an off day and will come back another day, at least it was fun.
For a skill game, a gambler likes to play these games for a more than likely chance of making a profit. They like to source out players who are not as skilled at the game and take advantage of the difference. They also like to use their skill to minimise the house edge and possibly make a profit against the casino.
So which game is more profitable in the end? Well, there are many players out there who are going to do really well and prefer playing chance games since they know how to walk away as winners when they are up and minimise their losses by quitting games when they are down.
For skill based players, even if they are highly skilled they are not exactly guaranteed a win. However, the truly skilled player over the long run will always show a profit and can often call themselves a professional player if that is all they do for a living. Lots of time and energy has been invested in their chosen skill so they are looking to make lots of profit as a return on investment.
If you have plenty of time and enthusiasm, then go learn a skill game and try to play for long term profit, otherwise just have fun with the chance games.
