Making The Most Of Your Time
Professional poker players around the world always have to organise their tournament schedule in order to maximise their playing time, travel time and money and minimise wastage. It is fine when a professional poker player is twenty years old, has no family, mortgage and is free to roam the world, they can do whatever they like, but what about the pro who happens to have TV commitments, partner and children? For them they have to selectively choose the best times of the year and days of the week to play in order to have a good balance and still play enough tournaments to allow for bad beats and down swings.
Sundays are an excellent day of the week to be playing poker online since many of the poker sites host their biggest weekly guaranteed tournaments. These tournaments have excellent prize pools, plenty of bad players since it is a Sunday and often run concurrently, so you can play more than one at a time.
For live poker fanatics, there is no greater cluster of tournaments than the World Series of Poker each year in Vegas. There are 57 events over one month so there is plenty of poker to be played, and is good value for the one plane ticket and accommodation costs, that are required to get there if you are flying from the other side of the world to be there. Logistically, this is better than flying to smaller poker festivals around the world since there are not as many tournaments at the festivals and the prize pools are no where near as attractive. The players at the WSOP are also much more varied, with many internet, first time qualifiers, who are too nervous to play a hand. Make sure you make the most of your time to find good balance and play plenty of poker.
