Online turbo multi table tournaments are often used by many players as a quick game to turn a small amount in to a bigger amount due to its fast structures. The strategy one needs to use to play these types of tournaments profitably is slightly different to your usual multi table tournament.
Since, it is online turbo that we are talking about, most players will witness an early rush of all in pushes from players who are eager to chip up early to set up a deep stack going deep into the tournament. This is a direct reversal of the universal start off ‘tight’ play and then eventually loosen up to the middle stages of a tournament that we are accustomed to with live play literature.
Regular online turbo players will push all in early in the tournament with any two cards and would prefer to either double up or exit early. Their immediate aim is to set themselves up for a big stack aiming for the big win and will take the tournament seriously after one or two double ups. After they have accumulated some chips, then they tighten up to gradually advance into the money.
To take advantage of this type of play, it is best to actually widen up your all in calling range in the early levels and actually play more aggressively in the middle stages when everybody starts to look at making the money. Your skill in calling at the correct time will strengthen with practice, you just have to judge the type of range your opponent is pushing with, whether they have a specific range or are pushing with anything.
The most important point of all is to not think of your chips as the buy in that you came into the tournament with. Think of them as chips that will help you get to victory and use them accordingly.
