Re-stealing In Poker
The resteal in poker is one of the most important weapons in any poker player’s arsenal. With many beginners lacking this move, an up and coming intermediate or pro can out play their opponents who are not aware of this move. The resteal involves coming over the top of an opponent’s preflop raise. Their usual three blind raise might just be a late position move, and an all in move or , that is greater than 12 times the big blind from position, or the big blind can often see them folding.
This move is most effective late in a tournament, and close to the bubble. Players who are afraid of busting, or are keen to see other players eliminated in front of them will be less likely to call an over the top bet since they see this as a move that represents immense strength and would rather look for a better opportunity rather than gambling on a bust out. Players who have folded previously to over the top raises by other players are the best targets for this type of move since they have demonstrated the willingness to fold rather than gamble.
Your selection of cards on these types of cards is crucial. Anybody can go over the top of somebody else with pocket aces or kings, but are you able to do with nine ten suited? Or maybe even eight nine suited? Or three four suited? Your target opponent’s range and foldability will determine what range of cards you can use to resteal with.
The resteal is a dangerous move since ultimately, the type of player who uses this move has no fear. They are not afraid of busting and are preying on those who are afraid of busting. Your resteal might be pocket threes against a player’s open raise with ace king. If they fold, you have taken their legitimate claim to the pot and have won a pot without a showdown. Of course, your opponent might not have ace king, against your pocket threes. Your opponent, might have pocket kings or aces. This is hard to pick, but over time, more of your resteals should be profitable and allow you many pots you are not entitled to but have outplayed your opponents for.
