So Who Will Win The Grand National?
It’s that time of the year again as we get set for the oldest steeple chase race in the world, The Aintree Grand National. This year’s runners and riders contain a few old faces, some new ones as well as a host of new and exciting jockeys looking to stamp their name on this great event.
Despite a big field, the ante-post favourite Cloudy Lane has been backed down to 5/1 with Comply of Die 10/1 and Slim Pickings also available at the same price, but who will take this years glory? Who will appear from the pack to spring a surprise? Will Tony McCoy finally get his hands on that elusive title?
Saturday’s race starts at 4:15 and is sure to be one of the most exciting races of the year with thrills spills and heartache for many, although we can only hope that all of the horses and jockeys get around the track safely. While the safety record of the event has improved dramatically over the last 10 years, this is no walk in the park and as the race wears on more and more horses and jockeys will become tired and mistakes will creep in.
The race itself attracts the largest worldwide audience for any horse race, and when you consider it has a history which goes back to 1836 when ‘The Duke’ won the first ever ‘National’, it is not hard to see why it is so popular. While Silver Birch took the glory last year at odds of 33/1 we have seen very few big priced winners over the last few years. Will it be the turn of an outsider to claim the glory, will the favourites be there at the end to take the glory?
Whatever happens on Saturday you can guarantee it will not be ‘just another race’ for this is the ‘National’, the greatest Horse Race in the world!
