Starting Short
Sitting down at a cash game table in poker provides a choice of how much you are permitted to buy in for. Most online sites will allow you to buy in for anything between twenty and one hundred big blinds. There are many schools of thought on the correct amount that one should buy in for but not many schools will suggest buying in for short. Here are some advantages to buying in short.
Buying in short actually makes your life much easier. Short stacked poker is actually much more straight forward than deep stack poker since there are not so many decisions, and you are most likely to be all in by the second street of betting. Being short stack, also allows you to focus on playing only premium hands rather than getting fancy with hands like suited connectors or small pairs that have great implied odds, but require a bigger stack to try over and over again. By the time the river card falls, if you are in the hand, you should already be committed enough to make an easy bet or call.
With a short stack, it often then looks like you do not have much ability, or are not there to gamble and can lead to misreads from your opponents. A short stack usually is a sign of a beginner player, somebody with very little money or just plain weakness. This can lead to getting more action from gambling players, even though they might be up against a monster hand every time you are playing. If there are a couple of gamblers with deep stacks at the table, you are most likely set to benefit if they are going to play loose.
Playing a short stack in cash games is a successful strategy that many top pros use online to go about their daily living, give it a try.
