Storm In A Tea Cup

Andy Murray has served through to the Wimbledon semi finals for the first time with a strong straight sets win over Juan Carlos Ferrero of Spain. His play was very strong with 18 aces in total and taking the match 7-5, 6-3, 6-2. The first set was an excellent showcase of the form that he has available if he is at his best with Murray dropping only four points on his serve in the first set. Many commentators believe that having a serve is different to having a serve that is capable of winning in Wimbledon. Murray showed that he is in hot form and looking forward to his matchup with Andy Roddick.

Roddick had a much tougher assignment against Lleyton Hewitt so will have to do well with his return of serve and movement to contain the hot Brit. Roddick also has to contend with the vocal home crowd that will be present to support their hero. However, Roddick has been playing well and has served 139 aces throughout the tournament and is hitting a first serve percentage of 72%. Look for this match to be a major serving arm wrestle. With the home support and a higher seeding, Murray is the favourite at $1.32 against Roddick’s $4.

Roger Federer has drawn the inform veteran, Tommy Haas. Roger had a relatively easier opponent in Yen-Hsun Lu and only needed to serve 10 aces and a first serve percentage of 71% to dispose of his opponent 7-5, 6-3, 6-2. Tommy’s match against Novak Djokovic was a battle of who could play better than the other rather than who was playing their optimal game. Both had low first serve percentages of 64% and 59% respectively and unforced errors of 32 to 24. Haas has made an excellent run to the semi final but will struggle to match it with the flawless Federer, his odds are almost at $11 to win against Federer’s $1.10.
