Watch Out Tiger

The U S Open Golf Championship is drawing closer on June the 18th to the 21st. It is the most prestigious golf tournament in the world and is set to draw big crowds to the Bethpage Black course at Farmingdale, New York. This year marks the 109th US Open Championship and only the second time at the Bethpage Black Course. The last time it was held at the Long Island course, the one and only Tiger Woods won the Open in 2002. He starts the US Open as the strong favourite for the championship.

The course itself is a very difficult one to ensure that only the truly skilled golfers will be able to use the course to their advantage. This makes it less likely that there will be a major upset or outsider coming surprising everybody who is involved and playing the tournament.

This year, Tiger Woods is making a big comeback from his long knee surgery layoff. Although many are hoping that his form has been lost in the layoff, this is not the case with some very strong finishes in recent tournaments. Even with the good results, he is still not the same player as he once was so watch for his nearest rivals in Jeff Ogilvy and Phil Mickelson. Phil Mickelson this week is playing at the St Jude Classic so a big finish from him can be an excellent indicator of his form going into the US Open.

It is a very tough game trying to pick the winner of the US Open and this is why it makes for such a great event. It always exposes the mental weakness in a golfer when the final holes draw closer with many of the top golfers collapsing under pressure. Make a good pick and watch closely to who will emerge victorious.
