Watching the Coach

A coach’s reaction and game plan after a team suffers a big loss is very interesting to whether the team will bounce back to full form or continue to go through a downward spiral. Some coaches will adopt a ‘ let the players learn from their mistakes’ approach. They believe that the players will be able to see what defensive and offensive mistakes they are making and improve their performance to ensure they are not as severely beaten or try to turn around the bad form. Switching the players in and out of the starting squad is not their type of optimal coaching.

Other coaches will look through the team sheets and look to replace the weakest links in the teams with fresh or better players. A strong team roster is needed for such a coach to have strong replacements for every position, not a luxury that every coach has.

The key to picking whether a team will bounce back after a heavy loss is looking at how a coach will be able to manage the team’s mental attitude and team cohesion. Look through past results in the coach’s history to determine whether one loss will often lead to another loss, a narrowing loss or a victory. This can help you determine the fate of the team after a terrible performance.

Champion coaches always have a way of managing their team to ensure they break out of any bad form and big losses. Instead of dwelling on the negatives, they are able to draw out the extra stamina needed to compete in the next match and grind out victories. Being able to skilfully pick whenever this may happen will definitely provide plenty of profitable opportunities as many bookmakers may over look the skill of the coach to be able to turn things around.
