What Do You Fancy For The 2000 Guineas?

As we approach the day, 3rd May, the time, 3:25pm, the excitement is starting to build with the 2000 Guineas now in touching distance. This Group 1 flat horse race has been a regular on the card since 1809 and is firmly established as one of the British Classic Races of modern times.

The race takes its name from the guaranteed prize money when the race was first run, 2000 Guineas, but we now have approaching £400,000 in prize money for the leading horses to share with the winner taking the lions share of the spoils. The 2000 Guineas is one of the most lucrative horse races of the modern era.

So where is your money this year?

While the betting is tight for what is sure to be another classic struggle between the top 3 year olds of the day, the money seems to be piling onto New Approach (currently about 6/4) and Ibn Khaldun (5/1). However this is one of the unique races of the calendar in that it is so early in the flat season that there is very little real form to go from. Many pundits use the form from the later half of last season to gauge the chances for each horse, but some will have improved, some will have slowed a little and some are just more unpredictable than ever.

Will Dettori reach for the stars? Will Manning bring the favourite home and cane the bookies? Or will Kinane pull another winner out of the hat?

Whatever happens tomorrow you can expect to see the sparks fly for the first Classic of the season and while some horses are sure to disappoint, we should see the emergence of some new superstars of the track. Let’s hope that they all come home safely…
