Winner Clearing At US Open
This year’s US Open will be remembered as the golf open that was dictated by mother nature. Four rainy days has ensured difficult playing conditions and many stops and starts to ensure even the best players get frustrated. With the long delays of play, the US Open will be finishing the tournament on a Monday, the first time since 1983. The names that are appearing on the scoreboard within title range are all getting ready for the biggest days of their lives.
Amateur golfer, Ricky Barnes, has already emerged as a title contender and already has his name in the record books with the lowest opening 36- hole score. His impressive play has produced an 11 under, and is now only the fourth player ever to reach double digits under par. His spectacular play however, soon caught with him and he squandered his lead to just six shots, and then a tie with Lucas Glover. The nerves are catching up with him, and needs to find the composure within himself to produce a championship round of golf.
Phil Mickelson is also on the cards as a player in the title contention. He has plenty to play for with his wife Amy, recently diagnosed with breast cancer, supporting him to get through. He has made runner up at the US Open four times so if he can make up five strokes then he will be able to lift the trophy. With 16 holes remaining, this is definitely not out of the question, and just requires some momentum early in the course.
Finally, Tiger Woods is technically a long way back, but not out of the world. He trails nine strokes behind and he himself has never rallied back from such a score. It would require a mammoth effort from him and a little luck from his competitors to be able to make up such a deficit.
The weather has not been great, but the final round looks to be a thriller once again.
