Women and Poker

Looking across the casino floor of the poker area, it is no great divide to see the crowd dominated by male poker players. There may be a good mix of juveniles and war veterans, but there is a clear absence of women in the pit. Put in the usual social percentage of good looking women, and you are really struggling to find somebody photogenic let alone possibly gracing the front cover of any type of magazine.

The same theory really goes for looking through the list of sponsored pros in the major poker sites. It is still mostly men, but a growing army of women are slowly starting to make their presence felt. Poker sites still prefer to sponsor women who are photogenic and can attract the prying eyes of the men. Some of the most well known female players are still good to look at and have to work hard to prove the point that they can match their good looks with a strong game. This perhaps actually gives them an edge to remain focused and not to be outplayed by the aggressive men who still show women not much respect at the tables.

All the poker magazines continue to grace their front covers with the new poker it girl. Any girl who has posted a recent tournament win or good finish and hopefully is easy on the eyes will soon be photographed. They do not have to be in any compromising position, they just have to be flashing a nice smile, and that should help promote both the magazine and the game of poker to both men and women. The women of the world are rapidly catching up with the men and there will be some all time great players emerging on the scene as the world still goes through its poker boom and everybody continues to improve at the game.
