WSOP 2009 Decided
The WSOP champion for 2009 has been decided. Young Dane Peter Eastgate is now the new WSOP Main Event Champion after a long heads up battle with Russia’s Ivan Demidov. With what has a high quality heads up battle played over 100 hands, the lead which started with Peter Eastgate actually once was handed to Ivan Demidov before a big run of pots went to Peter Eastgate and wearing his opponent’s chips down to a desperate level.
This year’s heads up battle was much more longer than previous years with Ivan Demidov’s turned two pair second best to Peter Eastgate’s turned wheel straight. Both player’s were visibly exhausted after the battle but should be happy to know that their bankroll has now shot into the millions. Ivan Demidov picks up US$5,809,595 for his second place finish and makes him the highest earning Russian poker player ever. Peter Eastgate earns a cool US$9,152,416 to go along with his bracelet, title of WSOP Main Event Champion, new record holder for youngest ever WSOP Main Event Champion at 22 years old and will be forever immortalised with his photo to be placed in the WSOP Main Event Champions gallery amongst all the greats like Phil Helmuth, Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson.
This year’s WSOP signals a new wave of European internet poker players dominating both online and live poker. With a big debate over what type of play produces better poker players, more and more momentum is coming from the young online pros that often do not finish university to pursue their earnings in poker.
