Are there any "acknowledged" players that are renowned for their skills? Sort of like those famous StarCraft players, or chess players?

There are plenty! Phil Hellmuth, Jerry Yang, Phil Ivey and Joe Hachem spring to mind, not to mention the lovely Shannon Elizabeth and Meg Tilly!

Of course there's always Annette Obrestad who became the youngest woman to win the WSOP last year at only 18!

With the recent popularity of poker there are now lots of famous players. There are plenty of articles on gambling.com about well known poker players, have a look some time.
