Is PATIENCE!!! When playing poker patience is an absolute MUST! Many times the stupid players will weed themselves out if you just stay patient. Whenever I want to work on my patience I go into an online Freeroll because knuckleheads abound there. I don't think anyone can find a better skill to possess!

L2P

There are few things that are so unpardonably neglected in our country as poker. The upper class knows very little about it. Now and then you find ambassadors who have sort of a general knowledge of the game, but the ignorance of the people is fearful. Why, I have known clergymen, good men, kind-hearted, liberal, sincere, and all that, who did not know the meaning of a "flush." It is enough to make one ashamed of the species. ~Mark Twain

I agree with you L2P. Patience is indeed a virtue. This saying is also applicable in gambling.

Poker is definitely a game of patience and also tolerance. There are a lot of rude people and people who don't know what they are doing that can mess up your game if you aren't tolerant.

I would agree that patience is probably number one, I sure fold a lot of hands, but I also think it is important to have at least a basic understanding of the strategies and probabilities of the game. Also a good understanding of table etiquette would be nice!

Patience is definitely an important quality to have but I also think observation skills are just as crucial to winning at poker. By paying attention and observing the other players, you will have a better shot at knowing what they are going to do next.
