There are plenty of piddly types of honored sports that have wiggled in, and some sports which aren't much of sports either.

RE: Good and Bad about today's Olympic's Format

I agree that some of the larger team sports (basketball and baseball) shouldn't be in there. I really miss the Olympics from about 10-15 years back. Competition was much tougher than and well worth watching.

RE: Good and Bad about today's Olympic's Format

I didn't know there were track and field professionals. What am I missing? So far as basketball and baseball, I really don't think those should be in the Olympics period. All these "sports" just don't seem to fit in the Olympics to me. But if they are gonna have them then they should have the best players, which do tend to be the professionals. What kind of competition is there when the best players don't play?

RE: Good and Bad about today's Olympic's Format

Although I have a big issue with professionals participating in the Olympics, I am wondering if this should apply right across the board. I think a distinction should be made betweeen say, track and field professionals and say basketball or soccer pros.

RE: Good and Bad about today's Olympic's Format

I think many feel the same way as you do, I remember long ago it was worth watching and now it just seems like another way to make a buck or get free media shots. I also read today something about media censorship for the games, anyone gotta clue?

RE: Good and Bad about today's Olympic's Format

I liked that they changed it to every two years as well. I also agree that there should be more amateurs, they deserve to have their time to shine.
RE: Good and Bad about today's Olympic's Format

I completely agree with you about letting the professionals play during the Olympics. This should be strictly for amateurs! The pros had their chance to make their mark and decided they'd rather have the money.
I also like seeing the games every 2 years now!

Good and Bad about today's Olympic's Format

I think that the decision to stagger the summer and winter games so that we can watch Olympic level competition every two years was a smart decision. One thing I don't like or agree with is allowing professional athletes to play in the Olympics. They should go back to allowing amateurs to participate and leave the spoiled professionals sitting at home watching like the rest of us.
