What is the worst?

I'm sure we have all heard lots of tips and tricks and tried many, even thinking up some of our own. And I am equally sure that some of them were disastrous! Can you think of a trick you tried that backfired on you or just simply didn't work?

I played cards and wanted to try a little experiment. Early on in the game if my hand was bad I would look at it a lot and give a heavy sigh. I played a few hands all the way through when I knew I was beat. At least two people picked up on it as being what they thought was a legitimate tell. After about 45 minutes I had a decent hand and made my move. I won easily as all but one person stayed in. Has anyone else tried this little trick?

I don't even know if thats a term that anyone would use but I'm sure you get the idea. People that can not sit still. Sometimes I know people can not help it, but other times its done straight as a distraction for others and the only way it distracts me is driving me nuts - my game playing doesnt change but my patience level does.

Playing cards with sunglasses

I am a believer in playing poker at a live game with sunglasses. I've read some where that your eyes can give you away because of how they dilate. I for one won't take the chance if that is in fact the case. Anyone else wear sunglasses?

Is PATIENCE!!! When playing poker patience is an absolute MUST! Many times the stupid players will weed themselves out if you just stay patient. Whenever I want to work on my patience I go into an online Freeroll because knuckleheads abound there. I don't think anyone can find a better skill to possess!

Sometimes we get lucky and we can guess to fold or hit for blackjack, sometimes we can get lucky and guess about poker as well. Are there any real stats out there as to what can be predicted and what not? I am 1/2 and 1/2 on this one, sometimes a gut feeling works and sometimes its just luck right?

Does anyone ever use a fake tell? (Giveaway) My Dad says he does it all the time. He will do a particular fidget everytime he has a good hand, then, when he thinks everyone is on to his tell, he will not "tell" when he has a good hand. He has won some nice pots that way.

I see this rather a lot for the professionals, that they wear a head covering with peak that will cover their face. The idea is to prevent their eyes or facial expression giving the game away, and so they keep their head looking down.

I find that by being observant of the other players I can generally tell what they are most likely to do or if they are bluffing. I pay close attention to them for several hands and keep my bets low. Once I have a handle on their reactions, then I up the ante a bit. Does anyone else do this and does it help you win as much as it seems to me?

I find I win more than I lose because I deliberately change my style every so often. Most people do not do this and can be very easy to read. If you switch off your style every few hands, then others won't be able to get a bead on you.

Consistent Blinds

I think it is good to stay consitent on blind betting. It will be obvious that you will have good hand if you raise the blind. This will discourage the other players to continue playing and you might even lose potential money from the other players that would bet but have folded.

Choices

Try as I might I can't get the hang of poker particularly well. For that reason I play mainly for fun.

The problem that I have is that I can never decide when the option comes up, which hand to play. If it is a choice of going one way or another I just can't decide which way to go and obviously when you are the table that hurts you.

How do you make those choices, and fast? Is there a formula?

This is not really a way to help you win, instead this is something that I do to make sure I dont lose the farm during a night out at the casinos.

First, keep all credit cards at home, there is no reason to take them with you, if you got cash you are set.

Take only your ID, and whatever cash you are ready to part ways with.

Once you lose that money, you go home, simple as that, its worked for me, and know you can use this for yourself

Trembling Hands

This is not so much of a strategy but much more on asking for a tip on how to stop the trembling of the hand.

I usually have trembling hands when I have good cards and I can't stop them. At first, my opponents doesn't notice this but as when the game proceeds, they will eventually notice it and they know that I have good cards. Any advice on how to stop them?

I can not believe this has yet to be posted about and if it has its certainly not in the right section. If you ever want to learn to play the game, you need to know the right terminology for each game. Just think of it as slang that you need to know otherwise anyone can call your bluff.

My trick: Raise before the flop

I have noticed that ever since I've been raising before the flop, the amount I win triples or quadruples even!

This is because if I have a high hand before the flop, like AA or KK or AK then I have a high chance of winning. And by raising before the flop you basically increase the stakes and thereby how much you win.

But beware, you should know when you are beat. Because you can also loose a lot of money on such hands as well!

FLUSH - PAY FOR IT

A good friend of mine plays tournament poker, this is what he sent me. Thought you'd get a kick out it.
In a live tournament last night I peek and see the snowmen(8s). My table image is very tight as I haven't played but three hands in an hour and a half. Winning one showdown and opponents folded for the other hands. In the small blind I see everyone fold but three players, the Drawer, Mr. aggressive, and the button. I come out with a bet of four times the blind hoping to discourage the limpers. One caller the Drawer. Flop makes a two flush and 9 high. Nice flop for snowmen. I bet 75% of the pot and my opponent calls. 6 clubs on the turn. Awesome...but I need more info, so I check. Button checks. I am very confident he's on a draw, AK,AQ,KQ maybe a bigger pair but unlikely. I would expect him to raise or at least bet the turn. River floats a 2 of hearts. Now I think I'm beat, the river has been very volatile and he is the Drawer. Again, I check and the he bets 1000. It's not even 20% of the pot. I don't believe he is value betting me. He doesn't know how to bet at all. Very random and no structure. Random is good but he isn't doing any math. Anyway, I have to call the small bet. It's his only offensive and it's weak. He shows A and K of hearts. Crucial mistake, my read was fine, I gave more chips to the Drawer. My best chance was to bet really big on the turn. He might have called anyway. Middle pair out of position is dangerous. I got a favorable flop and played badly.

Blinds vs Play

Just wanted to share a tip with all of you. I noticed that it is much better to play a lot more when the blinds are comparatively small than when they are big. This is because you get a lot more practice.

Also I noticed, you shouldn't go after the blinds if the blinds are small by raising before the flop. As, even if everyone folds, the profit you made is very small!
