Though I've never been, I've heard that a lot of casinos provided unlimited free alcoholic beverages. I understand it's because people who are drunk are more apt to spend a lot more gambling. Does this happen to you?

Online Poker and "Bots"

I have heard that sometimes online poker sites will use "bots" to fill up tables. I know I prefer to play at a full table, but I don't like the idea of playing against (and possibly losing to) a computer program that is playing for the casino. Does anyone know if this is true?

I was reading a couple articles which mentioned poker is not profitable for casinos because you are betting against other players and not the house. I can imagine it may not be as profitable, but surely it must make some money, right?

What is a good age to start someone playing poker, just for fun mind you not betting or anything. I know this has been touched on before, but besides a good age I am looking for any good tips to help teach someone. I'm not the best teacher by far but I have a niece that wants to learn, so I was thinking maybe a book could help her more than I could.

Do you think televised games makes the game out to be easier than it really is? I know that I've seen a few games where they show the hole cards and I'm thinking, "what the heck is he staying for?" Then I play online and see the same thing. I think television gives people the idea that you can play with anything when that is not the case!

I know that I have caught myself in several games doing the same thing over and over (like when I had a good hand I would look at my hole cards often). This is something I've really worked at fixing and I try to be conscious of everything I do to try and avoid giving my hand away. Do you catch yourself as well and what do you do to fix it?

Online Poker vs. "live" poker

I have just recently started playing Poker online and I am having a good time. However, I wonder how much of a difference there is between online poker and a casino game? Especially since I am playing the free poker. Do you think people play differently when they are playing online? In a table game you can see the other players, and that should help, but I also think that the online players might play a little looser and be easier to beat?

With the Macau leg coming up the end of August, there are more and more top players becoming involved. I'm sure it didn't hurt that they increased the guaranteed prize pool to a cool million and a half either.

Have you ever played at a teaching table to learn a new type of poker? I'm fairly familiar with 5 card draw, but I have been interested in holdem and some of the other types of poker, and I was thinking of playing at one of the tables for newbies at the casino, or do they just drain you of your cash?

Frustrating Home Games

We play a monthly game where we rotate to different houses each month. It is usually a lot of fun but lately I find myself sick and tired of all of the crazy games and wild cards. Why can't they just play poker? I've actually gone to taking my ante out of the pot if they call wild cards but it makes for some tense times. Any one else tired of "kiddie poker" like this?

Now more than ever before in known history, Casinos and Gambling are simply much more widely available no matter where you live. Every area has their casinos, but I think there may be some downsides to this. Because of so many casinos, they all have to divide the customers with eachother, just so that they can pay the bills and stay afloat. What is your opinion about all of this, and do you feel that it is a major issue at all?

Hold'Em and Pot Odds

I love to play Texas Hold'Em but have never been one to base my betting on my pot odds. I do try and keep track of how many outs I have but calculating pot odds has always been a mystery to me. Does anyone else not worry about it or have an easy way to figure them out?

I admit, I don't play poker all that often. I still use a little chart I wrote up on which hand trumps which. My boyfriend totally teases me about it, but I've gotten confused before and mistakenly made a poor bet (just at home, with friends. not at a casino!).

I had a friend who was in the 2007 WSOP and ended up with 4 of a kind on the first hand. He slow played a bit because he thought the other guy bidding had a full boat. He was right up until the river but by then they were both all in and he was out. He said he just stared at the card and just shook his head, got up and left.

Anytime I see any of those poker shows on television, I just have to sit down and watch no matter how busy I may be with other things at the time. I'm a major history buff and found the background of poker to be fascinating. Although card games have been around for around a thousand years, the first game similar to modern poker was played by the Spanish. Called "primero" the games dates back to 1526 and bluffing was considered the major skill. Over time, people have invented, and continue to invent, new versions of the game.

Do any of you ever watch poker on TV? I just love it, since I don't go to casinos very often. The commentary in the background is just amazing and creates a feeling that you are in the casinos with the players themselves.

I'm curious to see what game everyone prefers to play when it comes to poker. I know I like to play just about any of the ones listed but really don't like 5 card stud all that much. Hi/Low in any form is a favorite of mine because I tend to have cruddy luck so I normally do well with the low hands.
