Hey, folks. You are chatting with a local tournament winner here. I just won my first local tournament that is played weekly at a local bar here in town. We play Texas Holdem every Thursday night. Thanks for all the tips posted throughout the different threads. They do pay off.

I heard that tournament players will urinate on themselves rather than get up and use the restroom, especially if they are having a winning streak.

I'd kind of like to try entering a poker tournament when I get cable internet in a couple of weeks. I'm curious how long I would have to stay online to complete a tournament though?

I tend to find when I play in tournaments, even for fun, that the guys don't give me much respect. Even when I'm kicking their butts they count it up to being distracted or something else and not my skills.

Hosting a Home Tournament

I'm looking at having about 40 people over to have a poker tournament. I'm thinking having $50 buy in and $5 of that going to the refreshments and the rest into the purse. I'm thinking of having money paid out to the top 4 finishers with the winner getting 50%, Second getting 25%, third 15% and fourth 10%. Does that sound reasonable? So far people like the idea. Has anyone hosted a nice size tournament before?

Does it ever happen that a tournament goes on for too long? That one or more of the participants has to leave the tournament for some reason? Do they forfeit winnings to that point if they leave?

I've never played in a tournament "on-land", but I've been seeing a lot of stuff about online tournaments with great jackpots and low buy ins. Is it even worth playing? Can an average player win?

I signed up for an all day tournament for charity and am worried that by the end of the day (projected to be around 9pm, starting at 9am) I will be so tired I'll be doing silly things instead of playing my best. Any tips for staying on top of my game?
