I know many people that use their "street skills" and can get a job at any casino, but b/c of the same SS's thats the only type of job they can get.

RE: Is there a downside?

A lot of people, and families have unfortunately been hurt by the excesses of gambling. There isn't a lot we can do about that, we just have to make sure that we don't get sucked in ourselves. Don't take things too far.

RE: Is there a downside?

Of course there's always the downside to gambling and casinos, but unless people are gambling their entire life savings away, there are many other things they could otherwise be doing that are a lot worse. But no one can argue the risks of addiction-the difference is that risk is personal, not society wide.

Is there a downside?

What do you think of the naysayers who claim that gambling is a bad thing for society? They talk a good argument, including "statistics" such as the number of people addicted to gambling, an increase in debt and crime in areas near casinos, that it makes the poor even poorer, etc. What do you think about these arguments?
