It is almost universally considered gambling, at least in the US I'd imagine. I don't see why people pay to play those games myself. Unless you're super good (which most people aren't) you're just gambling like you do at slots.

RE: Are non-casino online games gambling?

If its fake money though, it doesn't count right? Also I try and avoid playing games that make me download things, get nasty spywares that way and that's just not something I like.

RE: Are non-casino online games gambling?

Yes indeed, even the smallest exchange of money for a win of some kind is gambling. Penny bets are gambling. But as to the legality, it depends on where you live.

RE: Are non-casino online games gambling?

Depending on the definition of gambling where you live it could be. I would say using the larger definition yeah it is. Legally it may be separated by the skill/luck game thing. I've never seen the point myself.

RE: Are non-casino online games gambling?

It sure sounds like gambling to me, if you have to pay money to play. I know that sometimes, it can be considered a contest and not gambling if skill is required to win the game, as opposed to luck.

RE: Are non-casino online games gambling?

I don't know if they have found a loophole in the law, but my understanding was any transaction of money for winning a game is considered gambling.

Are non-casino online games gambling?

I really love to play many kinds of online games, such as Bejeweled and other skill/luck games that are online. Usually I play them for free, but sometimes I pay to play and you can win money if you are the one who gets the high score over others. Is this legally considered gambling? I never really thought about it, but I am worried about the whole "crossing state line" thing if it is.
