I think I pretty much share your roommates philosophy although when I am feeling lucky I will play the dollar slots. I don’t get bored by the slots though so that could be part of it.

I'm a play long fan too, because too often I have put all my cash in quickly and ran out of cash with hours left of my evening to go. No fun like that.

I look at how long I want to play and how much I can afford to lose. I prefer quarters myself as well because with a dollar machine my budgeted amount seems to go a lot more quickly.

I would think that the incentive would have to be more on the higher slots. People who play the dollar machines are trying to win big. People who play the nickel or quarter machines are just spending some time having fun for the most part. They don't have much to loose if they don't win, whereas the dollar slots will loose a great deal more in the same time frame. So there would have to be some stimulus to keep you playing on those higher priced machines.

These were all good responses, thank you for taking your time.. I read a book "how to win at slots" it listed (at the time) the payout percentages in Vegas and Reno.. the Dollars were consistantly higher than the quarters which were higher than the nickels and pennies.

But I agree... luck is what it's all about (and fun of course) happy gambling!

I like the smaller cost slots as well. A dollar can be used for so many other things other than five seconds of gambling. I don't mind the smaller payouts either. Better smaller pay in and smaller payout than bigger pay in and no payout.

Well, I usually play the nickle slots, so I'd say I share your roomies philosophy. Though I did "win big" on a dollar slot one once, an Elvis game, $700!

Not a huge slots player but when I do, I tend to be more like your roommate. I hate putting a dollar in when it's all just luck. Quarters aren't a big deal to me so I'll kill an hour dropping quarters in on occasion. I don't mind the smaller payouts as $575 would cover all my betting for the weekend and then some. My limits are almost always less than $300 for my gambling budget.

My roomate and I have different philosophies, I like to win BIG. She likes to play forever. Since I get bored quickly and dislike being tricked by a 2300 coin payout that is really only 575.00... I like the dollar slots better. What you see is what you get. It also seems to me that the odds are better.
What's your take?
