There is a physical aspect to playing the slots, the action, the clunk of the coins, the ching as they drop. So you win and get a ticket, big deal!

RE: I sure do miss the coins
Mickey (7/12/2008)
I suspect that the primary reason for going to plastic is upkeep and increased income. If you use a credit card you just might play more than if you are using a pocketful of coins. I would like to see both types though. Someone might drop a few quarters but would turn away from a card machine.
I think the original poster was referring to ticket payout machines. I like them in the sense that it's easier to carry around your winnings.. although easier to lose them also. Personally I never carry my ATM or credit card in a casino. I leave it in the car so when I run out of money i actually have to LEAVE the casino.

RE: I sure do miss the coins

I totally agree it's all about getting you to spend more money! That said, there are still some places that have "coin-op" slots. Just fewer. I'll not be sad when they are all gone though, the coins made my hands feel sooo dirty.

RE: I sure do miss the coins

I suspect that the primary reason for going to plastic is upkeep and increased income. The smell of metal would always get stuck in my hands and I would smell it until I washed my hands 4 times.
RE: I sure do miss the coins

I'll tell you what I DON"T miss about coins.. Black Hands. My roommate had me taked into playing nickels one time for like, 3 days. I almost couldn't get that metallic residue off of me. Then she tries to hand me one of those little white gloves.. Like me, a man, is going to wear that.

I will agree though.. there is nothing like the sight and sound of a dollar machine trying to payout 800 coins while some tourists are walking by wwith you trying to be all nonchalant. :D

RE: I sure do miss the coins

I guess in a way I can see the reasoning. I know for the most part when I travel any more I leave the change at home or try and put it in my carry-on. It is too much of a hassle to carry it but I'm like you, I miss the sound of dropping those quarters.

Slim

RE: I sure do miss the coins

I know what you mean, I miss the clink of coins falling into the machine. Tickets just don’t do it for me but I still like the slots though.
RE: I sure do miss the coins

People just don't carry cash and live within their means anymore. If they can't use their debit or credit they don't know what to do.

I agree though, I want to use a real coin and play slots, not plastic.

I sure do miss the coins

I flew through the Vegas airport last week and had a bit of a layover so thought I'd drop a few coins. Only problem is that I didn't see any machines that took coins. The sounds of the falling coins is gone for good it seems. I really wish they wouldn't have gone to the tickets.
