The mall restaurant thing I could almost believe...since I can smell it from miles away sometimes. At casinos however, I extremely doubt they would pump smells or whatever. At the very least, I guess this makes for some interesting discussions though!

RE: Common Casino Myth

Do you think they pump food smells into the air as well? I have heard some fast food joints doing this around malls before. I wonder if they would do it or not.

RE: Common Casino Myth

I have heard of a lot of different casino related myths, and I don't believe a single one of them! Unless something can be proven to me as a true, I am not going to go around believing every single far fetched rumor in existence :P Oxygen pumping? Please tell me that none of you actually believed that one!

RE: Common Casino Myth

How would pumping in oxygen counteract your smoking? You get the nic from inhaling the smoke directly; the oxygen wouldn't mess with that.

Interesting theory, I'd never heard it before. I have heard the one about them ordering stronger coffee and soda with more caffeine to keep people awake and playing, but I'm fairly sure that's a hoax.

RE: Common Casino Myth

I'm an ex smoker and at the time that I was smoking, I certainly wouldn't have wanted it being pumped in then. I was paying good money to burn that junk, I wouldn't want to counteract any of it.

RE: Common Casino Myth

Being an ex smoker now I would want more oxygen too, it doesnt seem that bad. Maybe the part about people not sleeping but you know just b/c you can breathe doesnt mean you wont still get sleepy.

RE: Common Casino Myth

Actually the smoking in casinos makes it LESS likely. Pumping oxygen into the room would increase the fire risk, and with a large number of smokers around I would say that is a very real hazard.

RE: Common Casino Myth

It would make sense to me based purely on how much smoke used to be in some casinos. Smoke eaters can't even hope to compete. However like most internet rumors you kind of have to assume its not true.

RE: Common Casino Myth

No, I'd never heard it, and I am not sure how much sense it would make either. People tend to get really relaxed on high levels of oxygen, and are likely to care less about playing the games.

RE: Common Casino Myth

I had heard this numerous times, so I checked it out on Snopes too. I actually thought that it was true before I read the article, but it convinced me otherwise. I bet a lot of people still believe this though!

RE: Common Casino Myth

I have heard stories like that too, and after reading your post I decided to go check out what snopes had to say about it. It was a very interesting read and I found the myth to be quite funny

Common Casino Myth

One common story that I always heard was that casinos pump oxygen into the air to keep people from getting sleepy and wanting to go to bed. I was looking at snopes, and they gave a really detailed explanation of why this is not true, and where the myth originated. I found it an interesting read, I would recommend that you check that out. Has anybody else heard this myth?
