Royal Hold 'em

Royal Hold 'em has the same structure as Texas hold 'em, but the deck contains only Aces, Kings, Queens, Jacks, and Tens. It can be played with up to 6 players, due to the limited number of cards (20 in the deck). The poker strategy for this game varies, too. Anyone prefer this game over Texas Hold 'em?

Where I live we have card rooms where you can play poker for money. They are not really casinos, but it certainly isn't a home game. I am wondering how they get around the gambling rules? Is it because Poker could be considered a game of skill, not chance?

I was watching the 2007 tournament the other night and noticed that a pro made what I thought to be a bad move. He had AK and went all in. The other guy pocket aces. I can't count the times I had AK only to lose to a small or medium pair. Well the pro gets a straight on the flop and ends up winning the hand. The other guy could only shake his head in disgust. Sometimes the best hand in poker means nothing but a bad beat.

I've recently started playing Texas Hold'em poker tournaments online. One thing that drives me nuts is the people that "sit out" every hand. Sometimes they make it into the money before the blinds eliminate them.
Does this ever happen in live games?

I know of course that Texas Hold'em is an excellent game, but why do you think it's so popular now especially? It's popular even appears to be eclipsing that of regular poker, and surely there must be a reason for it, right? :D I love the game myself, so I guess that most people agree with me on it!

How I do love this game of Texas Hold'Em and at the same time hate it for all of the frustration it has given to me. Just when I think I have a decent game I get proven wrong yet again. It is one of the most enjoyable poker games I've ever played and I'm determined to continue to get better at it.

Do you think that all of this Texas Hold'em on television is what made the game popular, or was it the other way around...with the game getting big in other places before that point?

Online Play Frustration

I do love to play Texas Hold'em but lately find myself very frustrated playing online. So many times I bet with what should be a winning hand and someone hits the river with a straight that was holding 2 junk cards. I really wish I knew of a place close by where I could play a real game and not have to play online. I've read a few books on this incredible game and they are little help with online play because of the way the game is played. People will go all-in with absolutely nothing! It is enough to make you want to bang your head against the wall (or your monitor).

Does anyone have any insight as to why the online games most always favors the guy with junk?

I guess I need to work on my patience more than anything!

Transition from online to brick and mortar

I have played quite a bit of online Texas Hold'em online and have some pretty good success. Since they've changed the laws in the states making it harder to play I haven't played as much as I used to but still do pretty well.

I'm going to Vegas in two weeks and was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to play at a regular brick and mortar casino over online. I really want the experience but I'm a bit nervous.

Any ideas/suggestions?

What is the deal with the only game I can think of that I am just doing it all wrong that I lose every time.
