I used to go bowling with my friends all the time in my high school days. Bowling is still pretty popular with the teens on weekends. Mostly because one of the bowling arenas made itself over to appeal to that demographic

Most of the bowling arenas in my area are smoke-free so that’s good for me. I used to play during my high school days but not so much now.

I love bowling! I have never played on a league, but I think someday when my kiddos are all grown I probably will do so. I just hate the smoky atmosphere. There are a few bowling alleys around here that are smoke-free and I really like those. There is also one that has glow-in-the-dark bowling. It is so neat, they have stuff painted with fluorescent paint and they turn on black lights. Even the balls and pins glow. Its a blast.

Candlepin creeps me out. Bowling balls should be big and heavy. Part of the fun of going out and playing is the possibility that whomever you are playing will get drunk first and smash their foot with it. I've never gambled on it but my grandad did as he was team captain and a really good bowler. Never more than a pitcher or snacks though.

I tried 5 pin when I was up in Canada once... it's surprising how much the weight of the ball changes your game. I've never played candlepin, in fact, I had to go to wikipedia to see what it was! :)

i never thought of gambling on bowling! I used to go and play on Saturday nights because there were specials then (cheap lanes and cheap pitchers ;) ) Haven't been in a long while though.

OK, what is candlepin? I've never heard of that term before, and I know my bowling.

I bowl with my daughter weekly, and on a league too. here in Canada most bowling is five pin but our lanes do have ten pin too. I just find the balls too big for me so I stick to 5 pin. No wagers for me though. I bowl for fun, and that's it.

I'm pretty good at candlepin but can't play the big balls for nothing. Needless to say, I tend to stick to candlepin whenever possible. We have a nice alley not too far from our house so we go bowling once a month or so.

You might be surprised about getting on leagues. Bowling has seen such a downturn in interest there are newbies joining leagues these days!

Nothing wrong with bowling! It may be a bit old school for the younger generation but that doesn't make it any less fun. I have wagered on the outcome of a string or two in my time but sadly my skills (or lack of them) do not qualify me for league play. I still get together with friends to drink a couple beers and bowl a few every now and then.

I don't think I could ever play in a league or anything but to shoot around and play with a group of friends is fine by me. I haven't been in many years though, I guess I'm a sad bowler. :)

Yeah, I'm sure half of you are thinking, "did this guy just fall out of the 80s?" and the other half are thinking "Lebowski", but I love bowling, I'm even on a league. Bowling is so much fun with a good wager thrown in. On my league we allow betting, and even have a league pool, with nightly prizes and prizes for the whole year. I know to you younguns it probably sounds boring, but it's really a lot of fun and you should try it. No bumpers though, that's cheating. :D
