How much risk is there to using an old, potentially scruffy deck? Could someone fairly rapidly learn what any marks on them mean? How fast would that happen?

I honestly dont think a new person could understand what the marks meant unless they have played that deck before. I make sure I never play with an old deck thats been damaged, to be its just bad JooJoo.

An old deck is a no, no for me. I know I can easily and rapidly, based on marks, study the cards, not to mention other people, with really bad intentions.

I know I can identify marks after just a few uses. I throw my cards out once they are scuffed. Cards aren't terribly expensive. It's always a shame though, it seems like just as soon as they feel perfect in your hands when shuffling.

There have been a couple of times that I have played with scuffed up cards, and once you use a card and see a distinguishing marking, I think that you usually remember it. I try to not play with scuffed up cards though.

You're right you know, it is just when they start to feel right! I tend to take real good care of my decks, but those that I play with don't necessarily and so I get through them fairly quickly. I would never play with a damaged deck.

By the way, what's joojoo?

No way.  If it were my deck I'd be able to tell and I'd be a fool to pretend I don't notice.  Like ignoring someone's "tell".

Though I'd hate to show up at a game, and see that a deck belonging to someone else's is damaged. How do you politely bring it up or pull a brand new deck from your pocket.  "Gee, so we don't all cheat...let's make sure..."

I can't stand damaged decks. Forget the normal issues :cheating, etc I just don't like the fact that they aren't pretty anymore. For me one of the fun things about playing cards is the decks are always fairly new. The people I play with know I'll break their knuckles if they ruin my decks. I tend to carry my own when going elsewhere, just in case. Something rather different such as the transparent cards or shapes, as they are the perfect excuse to use mine and not the tattered deck of the host.
