| I am a terrible bluffer and the people I am playing with usually know when I am and when I'm not. Any tips on how I can be a better bluffer?

| You've got company - bad company. I might not be as bad as you at bluffing but at the first sign of trouble, I knit my brows and or bite my lips involuntarily. I know it happens because as soon as I do it, I can see the reaction on people's faces around the table.

| I think it is an advantage if you can act!

carl_on_roulette (1/23/2008) I think it is an advantage if you can act!
I quote: 'Once a bad actor, always a bad actor' - Daniel Negreanu, professional poker player.
You don't want to act, you want to be casual about it. Make sure you do exactly the same stuff you do when you are bluffing when you are not bluffing. Hopefully that solves most of the problem. But it is hard to do that cause we always unconsciously give signs away.

Practice in a mirror or have a friend watch you play and figure out your "tell" and work on doing it all the time. Then you will be consistent. If you are really good at making yourself do things work on fake "tells".

I love the mirror idea. I have a terrible poker face! I just get too excited when I have a good hand, I can barely contain myself. I'm just too easy to read. I've tried acting excited when I have crap, but I'm not great at it. Practice, I suppose, would help in my situation.
I can, however hid it when I'm doing bad... so people don't know whether I have a hand full of crap, or a decent hand. They are just pretty sure I don't have a great hand because I'm not giddy!

| How about starting by pretending you're bluffing when you're not. If you bite your lip when you are, try doing that when you're not bluffing. It'll get you a few pots and teach you how to act. Then try to act normal when you do bluff. That's the best advice I can give you as I play mostly online and no one can see me bluff.

Bluffing takes a lot of practice and confidence. Don't get too much excited when you get a royal flush in order for your opponents not to notice when you are winning. Express your feelings after all the cards have been shown. When you are losing, try to maintain your composure and don't get mad at the cards or even to your opponents. Just think that there is still another round where you can get lucky.
In other words, try to have the same facial expression all the time and bluffing would be very easy.
