| Its not a waste of time at all if you gamble for fun and use a play money to gamble. I think using play money could even improve your skills in the game you are playing. But its more thrilling when you play with real money.

| I for one like to play with the fake money. Sometimes when I'm board it gives me something to do and a way to practice without making an investment.

What I would do is just play for practice and get warmed up! Then grab some beer and start the ownage by playing with real money.
This way you get warmed up and some practice, and your ready to play!

Play money is very good for practicing, and just to have that occasional casual game to kill some time with no real risks for you to worry yourself about! You just play a game for the fun of it, with real money or no. Of course, to each their own! Don't let me tell you what you should or should not be doing!

I currently play on an online poker site that is free and you CAN earn real money. Now granted the "play" money collects at a fraction of the real amount ($1 play = $0.01) but with all the tournaments that I enter I've gotten to over $20 and still keep playing. Most of that I've won at games that require little or no entry fee. I would say in this case it is worth it. At least to me any way.

There are few things that are so unpardonably neglected in our country as poker. The upper class knows very little about it. Now and then you find ambassadors who have sort of a general knowledge of the game, but the ignorance of the people is fearful. Why, I have known clergymen, good men, kind-hearted, liberal, sincere, and all that, who did not know the meaning of a "flush." It is enough to make one ashamed of the species. ~Mark Twain

| If it is fake money, I would take more risks and hence would lose or win more. It is good practice but it does not substitute for real money that I cannot afford to lose. Oops. I seem to be an addict. Time to sign up for G.A.

| Actually, that is a very valid point interstate! You are much more likely to be careful when using real money, but when using play money...it is not uncommon to take huge risks. With no fear comes no holding back, since you having nothing to lose by taking larger chances.
