Aren't you sometimes amazed of how quickly the dealer does his maths, determines who wins, who has lost, and how much each should be paid so quickly and accurately?

Yes, I think that the guys who do this job generally are capable of card counting. They definitely have a nack for the numbers.

Have you ever dealt more than a dozen hands of blackjack? It gets really simple to count quickly and do the math. Especially when your job depends on it. I know dealing in college I could count quicker than the jocks I was dealing for, even if they hadn't been drinking.

I have to agree. When you're at it enough, it becomes second nature to you. I remember working at fastfood and being able to count back a person's change quicker than the coin changers.

It makes you wonder how much practice goes into this trade before you are hired at a top casino. Having quick hands can make some good money though, I think they get tips as well.

I know there are schools in Vegas and Reno that will teach you how to deal cards. Then I think you start at the smaller casinos and work your way up. I am pretty sure that most dealers are paid minimum wage, or not much more. They make most of their money from tips.
