I saw this question on the website provided in another thread (www.pokertips.org), and it gave four reasons for playing poker:
1. Social rewards
2. Entertainment
3. Education
4. To make money
Are there any others you could add?

| Well, based on my experience, most people play socially or for money. Not sure about education. For those who play for things like house chores, candy, beer, etc., not sure where you would put them.

| I play poker for fun but I guess that falls under entertainment. Maybe to be social with people? There are so many reasons why different people play poker

I suppose that all my reasons fall into one of those categories. I play for the social interaction and the entertainment that comes along with it.

| I really and truly don't see where the education comes in, other than being educated as to how to handle losing your money. I play for entertainment, and nothing more.

MoneyMaker (2/21/2008) Well, based on my experience, most people play socially or for money. Not sure about education. For those who play for things like house chores, candy, beer, etc., not sure where you would put them.
This reason could also be for fun. I mean whenever you win, you get a candy or not to do the chores. So it is still considered as an entertainment.
I play for the sake of entertainment and even sometimes to make money.
