Hockey is much more violent. Just this month a guy had his neck slashed accidentally and required a 5 pint transfusion. You never see stuff like that in the football games. It can get kind of brutal but that happens when a bunch of 200+lb guys play rough.

Characterizing hockey as too violent because of an accident isn't fair. When I was a kid a well known cyclist in Canada was hit by a dump truck. Left him a life long quadaplegic. Does that make cycling a violent sport? Hockey if played within the rules is no more violent than football. I happen to enjoy both.

I think that hockey and football are both violent but not to such extremes as to be described "too violent". Most of the things that have people thinking their violent are usually rare accidents

Hockey and Football are both violent sports but Rugby takes the cake as fas as violence goes in sports that aren't supposed to be as violent as say boxing. Rugby is a beat them up, smash then flat kind of game.

Mixed martial arts, boxing and extreme fighting are sports that are too violent. Hockey and Football are limited when it comes to violence. There is hitting but it is not intended when played properly to injure. I love hockey but hate to see anybody get hurt.

I wouldn't call it "violent". Dangerous, yes But to me "violence" involves intenional harm to another person, not just pushing that person out of the way because the rules say you can. A violent game would be a sword fight to the death! Football gets a bad rep because the injuries can be pretty bad and even deadly, but hopefully nobody intends to inflict those injuries.

I think most think hockey is more violent only b/c you can see they are on ice not ground and the skates and sticks issue. Otherwise its the same thing, a game and people tend to make it out to be more than it really is.
