| I love poker but have never played it online. I would think that would take much of the fun out of the game as well as some of the skill in reading other players. Where is the excitement in online play?

I'm pretty much the opposite. I've played a lot of online poker but only "friendly" real world games with friends. I like online mainly because it can move a bit quicker than a table game but you have a LOT of folks who bluff or just try to play all-in almost every hand because they aren't playing for real money (in some cases) or very low stakes.
I play online just to learn a bit more about the game itself. I'm hoping to get the chance to play for real next week in Vegas.

There are few things that are so unpardonably neglected in our country as poker. The upper class knows very little about it. Now and then you find ambassadors who have sort of a general knowledge of the game, but the ignorance of the people is fearful. Why, I have known clergymen, good men, kind-hearted, liberal, sincere, and all that, who did not know the meaning of a "flush." It is enough to make one ashamed of the species. ~Mark Twain

| I like to play online to cement the rules in my head and run through possible hands/scenarios. Playing without real bets or with low wagers makes it easier than having to lose money to your friends. Its different but still useful.

| I never thought of trying it as a way to practice new games. That's a good idea. I think I'll do that over the weekend as there is a couple of games that I'm not too clear on how the play works out.

| I think there's sxcitement in both games, just a different type. I like the idea about trying new games online. I guess that's mostly what I use it for, that and to hone up my game on the ones I play regularily.

| Do any of these online casino places have something like teamspeak that you use when playing online games? This way even if you can not read the people you are against, you can hear them talk and it might be a handy tool.

| I play both and its quite different because of how players act. When I play in the real world with friends or inside the casino, I usually take a lot of time thinking of my moves and guessing the cards of the other players. While playing online, I enhance my playing with free money and sometimes with small amount of money.
