Will you be placing any bets on any of the games this summer? What games do you bet on? do you only bet on your own country, or do you go for best athlete?

I'll watch tennis, baseball, basketball, gymnastics, and track and field. I won't be betting on the Olympics though since I have too much going on in other business ventures.

While I would normally love to watch the games, and would love to throw some money down on motocross (a new game this year!), I am boycotting the games. I am a Buddhist and I do not like the Chinese govt's policy with Tibet.

This is a debate in the other forum that I have been to. Will boycotting olympics does any good? I will still watch the olympics because its all about the games and not about the location. Any country where Olympics could be held, there is always a history of racism. So China is no different. Why not focus on the games rather than the location.

As for the betting, I won't bet on it because there are so many events that I watch and bet on. And mostly, the events that will be showed on my TV will be the games where the players represents my country.

I usually have a friendly wager on basketball and handball for the summer games. This year none of us will be watching any olympics though. I'll have to wait until 2010 to watch. Too bad, since I love the olympics. My 2010 wagers will be on hockey and luge, my favorites for the winter games.

I don't normally bet on the summer Olympics. I love to bet on hockey and skating for the winter Olympics, I normally just didn't have time to watch them and not all the things I am interested in get shown.

I would rather try for best athlete than my own country. What happens if they have a not so great team?

Being patriotic is fine but I won't throw money on someone who doesn't really have a chance.

My main concern is the movement to put sports and politics together.  I remeber Germany and the terrorist attack. I remember the US not going to the Soviet Union and now we see the demonstrations against the Chinese and the possible non involvement of some teams or people because of a political agenda. The Olympics are supposed to be beyond the reach of politics.

Please don't get me wrong, I am a firm believer that the Chinese are wrong in Tibet and in their own country. I would be happy if they were put into isolation and allowed to rot for all the wrong thing they have done. I just don't see the Olypics as the way to political and human justice.
