The government of the popular tourist destination in the Caribbean recently announced that they are going to permit the licensing of casinos.  Finally.  The fierce debate for and against casino gambling has being going on for a long time with no governmnt wanting to get on the wrong side of the church which generally have a strong opposition agains the move.

This is really good news! I am sure that in time even the tourist industry in Jamaica will benefit from this too-it will be a big winner situation all around.

Where tourism is such an important industry sooner or later the casinos will come. I know the Jamaican government is very conservative on many modern issues if I can call it that, but tourist dollars speak very strongly. I think it is a good move and can only help the economy there.

I totally agree. Casinos bring so many jobs, as well as more tourists, which means more money for an economy that relies on tourism. It's a good situation.

The battle lines are clearly drawn, but I think with the state of the Jamaican economy being what it presently is, I see the argument for casinos as a done deal.  In any case, it's about time that they look to improve the tourism product.

This may be a rather cynical point of view but usually when it comes to religious belief versus economic benefit, people's wallets seem to drown out the voice of God. Not saying that it's right or anything but if you look through history, it is what usually happens.
