Quite honestly I hate this idea. Sure kids don't make money to gamble with, but parents have wallets that are left around. I had more than one childhood friend who was stealing from their parent-this could lead to a whole host of problems.

Just one more thing to get more of the almighty dollar. This is a ridiculously bad idea and I hope the federal government would step in with a little "hint" about reducing government subsidies, etc. for the reservations. Gambling at a young age has nothing to do with tradition or heritage.

No matter what the tribes "official" line is for wanting to take away or lower the age limit we all know it is for one reason and one reason only. To make more money!

I haven't seen anything to indicate the possible changes in the gambling age on the reservations wasn't to make more money. The way the tribes view gambling isn't incompatible with profit, it is just an interesting note to add since we are talking about a culture that might not have the same constraints that the rest of the USA does.

The way I see it, I don't really care what the legal age is. Parents need to watch after their kids, and as was mentioned in another thread, kids are already gambling in school and at friends houses anyway. The problem will always exist, regardless of the prohibitive rules which are put in place.

There's a big difference between winning pencils or cars in the playground, and gambling legitimately for cash in a casino. There is far too much that is unsavoury in a casino, kids should not be around that kind of thing.

I admit that Sofa Surfer brought up some very valid points, but either way...I do not think having the legal age be 18 or so is being too unreasonable. Technically, an eighteen year old is supposed to be an adult anyway. Why not just let them gamble if they are in fact adults?

So true.

If parents don't want their kids gambling, it is up to them to indoctrinate them against the activity.

I can't think of anything unsavory about a casino. What casinos have you been in?

Gambling for cars and pencils can take place in dark corners and alleys with kids being bullied and beat up.
