First Annika Sorenstam. Then Justine Henin. Who is next? Morgan Pressel? When you lose the will to compete, retiring is the best option. Family plays a big role in the decision for Sorenstam. Getting blown off the court plays a big role in Henin's decision.

I think retiring at the top of their game is admirable in some ways. It allows the fans to remember them being great, not getting beaten by every up and coming star half their age or playing benefit tours.

If they really feel it is time to move on and stick to the decision that's great. It is always great to remember a player's great play and not their decline. Some try to come back later and then they end up looking bad or they come back and leave several times.
