I love to play Texas Hold'Em but have never been one to base my betting on my pot odds. I do try and keep track of how many outs I have but calculating pot odds has always been a mystery to me. Does anyone else not worry about it or have an easy way to figure them out?

There are few things that are so unpardonably neglected in our country as poker. The upper class knows very little about it. Now and then you find ambassadors who have sort of a general knowledge of the game, but the ignorance of the people is fearful. Why, I have known clergymen, good men, kind-hearted, liberal, sincere, and all that, who did not know the meaning of a "flush." It is enough to make one ashamed of the species. ~Mark Twain

| I'll be darned if I know. I bet based on my cards, and how I feel about the hand. I have no clue how to bet based on pot odds. It doesn't make sense to me at all.

You know, I don't know much about this, but it's all based on calculating how many cards there are that could potentially give you the best hand, and you have to assume that nobody is holding any of the cards you need. At that point, it's a simple fraction. Say you're holding two spades and there are two on the table. Since there are 13 total spades and four are in play, there is a 9 out of however many cards are left (number varies depending on how many players) to give you a flush.
Hope that makes sense!

I used to have a sheet that I used when I played online and didn't see much of a difference using it than just playing by how I think my hand shapes up. I know a lot of folks swear by it. It just takes the fun out of the game for me.

Yeah, while I've heard of people having great success by just using the numbers, it seems like instincts based on experience is just as effective.
