After a run of success at the tables over a few months, my friend has considered gambling full time. I'm not sure what to think about this, as it's not technically a "job" in that you can't count on the income. What do you guys think? Could it work?

| There are full time gamblers who make their living at it. You have to be an expert at whatever game you are playing. I wouldn't recommend it unless you know how to win consistently and really do know what you are doing.

Wouldn't it be safer for your friend to gamble part time and work a traditional job part time?
It would give him a chance to get even better at gambling, and provide a safety net if things don't work out as well as he hopes they will.
Also, it prevents him developing a big hole in his resume that would have to be explained if he had to seek employment again!
I couldn't imagine trying to explain a gap in employment with the words, "I was a professional gambler for 2 years..." and having to hope the HR people don't look down their noses at such activities!

| I don't see this as being possible for anything but the short term. People have occasional runs of luck and some people have them that last longer than others. But unless you are a card counter, you are ultimately always playing the odds, and anything that relies on that cannot last forever.

I'm hoping that he isn't considering gambling online as a full-time "job". Online games are much too unpredictable and they may let you win for a bit just to keep you playing as they know ultimately you'll give it right back.

Yeah, lol, you guys make good points. He's actually been doing his research, and he is currently saving so that he can have a year of wages without winning a penny at the table. In that respect, I guess it's not that bad.

| It is very difficult to ever class gambling as your full time job, great if you can earn a bit extra but what if the luck stops and you earn nothing.

| The short answer is no. It's not possible to properly make a living off gambling. Even the big stars will tell you that. Even with great skill in a game, there are still odds against you. A winning streak does not make a good carreer.

| I would think having at least a part time job would be a safe bet. How good is the friend and do you really think its something they could do and do well at?

| If your friend is dedicated enough and good enough to be a full-time gambler, than it is definitely something for him to consider. As for myself, I am not sure I could ever really pull it off. Have to admit though, I am sure that I would love it!
