I really wish they would outlaw smoking at all casinos especially in the slot areas where people are in such close quarters. I've seen, what I believe are regulars, sitting at a machine and chain smoking while they play. It never fails that if I find a nice area then a smoker will surely appear.

There are few things that are so unpardonably neglected in our country as poker. The upper class knows very little about it. Now and then you find ambassadors who have sort of a general knowledge of the game, but the ignorance of the people is fearful. Why, I have known clergymen, good men, kind-hearted, liberal, sincere, and all that, who did not know the meaning of a "flush." It is enough to make one ashamed of the species. ~Mark Twain

| The problem with this is a casino probably falls under the same laws as private clubs which can decide to follow or make their own rules about smoking. I personally just avoid smokers and if I can't I make it a point to tell a manager why I am leaving before taking my money elsewhere.

| This must be a flaw in the thinking of our legal luminaries because there is very little private about casinos these days. The no-smoking laws for all public spaces should apply and the casinos could create smoking rooms and booths. honeybun (6/12/2008) The problem with this is a casino probably falls under the same laws as private clubs which can decide to follow or make their own rules about smoking. | I have the same issues. I am an ex smoker. I quit five years ago. Whenever I get around them, I get disgusted from it. I simply don't like being around it anymore. I, too, have been known to leave a casino if the smoke gets too bad.

While I think its a decent idea, I'm not sure it will be anything more than that - an idea.

| Yes, the slots are about the worst place of all for smoking. Sometimes you'll find a machine that looks like an ashtray even from someone being careless. I can't stand it!

| In Michigan where I live, the House and Senate have almost passed a bill that will put a statewide ban on smoking in public. This will include any building that is open to the public. The casinos in Detroit are upset because they feel it will put them at a disadvantage to the Native American run casinos as they will not be affected by this ban. The reservation doesn't count as part of the state and they have their own rules. I think it is a great idea because I can't count the number of times I have been in the casino and started coughing because of too much smoke.

When I posted this I thought I would open the door to a lot of people who would blast me about smoker's rights, etc. I'm glad a lot of folks have the same idea. It makes a night out at a casino a miserable experience.
Maybe someone should make a completely smoke-free casino and prove them all wrong!
