| Is there such a thing as a "friendly wager"? It seems to me that whenever someone says that, they want to put down a lot of money and seem to think they have a leg up on you.

| It depends on what the bet is for, who is making it and anything else that might cause conflict. I have seen good and bad both happen when this topic comes up but its always down to whats at stake.

| I don't think I've ever heard anyone use that phrase in real life, only in movies. Around here, if someone wants to wager on something, they say "would you care for a bet" or something along those lines. And it can definitely be friendly, like a round of beers for everyone bought by the loser of a billiards game.
