| My parents, especially my father, complain to me about my gambling. I don't gamble all the time, but I do enjoy it, and they know about it, it's no secret. I just don't get why they give me a hard time though. They aren't giving me the religious arguement, I'm not addicted, I'm not living at home. I'm an adult, I've lived on my own for 3 years (living with a boyfriend now), I have no debt aside from a small student loan which is not yet in repayment (just graduated in May), I pay all my bills on time, I work for my own money... so what gives???

| Some people just are morally opposed to gambling, even if it doesn't have to do with religion. It's just the way that it is sometimes and I don't think that there is any way to change the opinion of someone like that. They just see it as being a big risk as far as addiction is concerned, wasting money and so on.

My parents enjoy going to the casinos and playing the lottery. They aren't much on cards, but its a skill issue. My grandmother on the other hand would spend a great deal of time and effort trying to get the whole family to stop gambling. Then, of course, she would run out to her nearest Bingo game! I think its mostly a cultural issue with many older people. They grew up with gambling being illegal and in a way they still think it should be. That "it was illegal for a reason" concept...even if they don't know what the reason may have been!

| My parents aren't opposed to it, but my parents are also recreational gamblers. If you have told them what you told us, then I would try saying "would you rather I didn't tell you where I was going?" and reiterate the point about being an adult and it's just recreation.

| I have had serious conversations with them about it and they just don't come around. Though I think I will try the "would you rather not know where I am?" approach. They aren't morally opposed to it, but my mom worries about addictive tendancies that run in our family, though I have no addictions.

| You may just have to agree to disagree. My parents are the same way about any alcohol. Even real vanilla extract is a no-no to them. You can imagine how much fun that is at holidays.

| My parents don't mind as long as I do it for fun and know my limits (meaning it does not become an addiction and my bills are paid and kids are taken care of properly).
