I flew through the Vegas airport last week and had a bit of a layover so thought I'd drop a few coins. Only problem is that I didn't see any machines that took coins. The sounds of the falling coins is gone for good it seems. I really wish they wouldn't have gone to the tickets.

People just don't carry cash and live within their means anymore. If they can't use their debit or credit they don't know what to do.

I agree though, I want to use a real coin and play slots, not plastic.

I know what you mean, I miss the clink of coins falling into the machine. Tickets just don’t do it for me but I still like the slots though.

I guess in a way I can see the reasoning. I know for the most part when I travel any more I leave the change at home or try and put it in my carry-on. It is too much of a hassle to carry it but I'm like you, I miss the sound of dropping those quarters.

I'll tell you what I DON"T miss about coins.. Black Hands. My roommate had me taked into playing nickels one time for like, 3 days. I almost couldn't get that metallic residue off of me. Then she tries to hand me one of those little white gloves.. Like me, a man, is going to wear that.

I will agree though.. there is nothing like the sight and sound of a dollar machine trying to payout 800 coins while some tourists are walking by wwith you trying to be all nonchalant.

I never liked the whole coins thing. The smell of metal would always get stuck in my hands and I would smell it until I washed my hands 4 times.

I suspect that the primary reason for going to plastic is upkeep and increased income. If you use a credit card you just might play more than if you are using a pocketful of coins. I would like to see both types though. Someone might drop a few quarters but would turn away from a card machine.

I totally agree it's all about getting you to spend more money! That said, there are still some places that have "coin-op" slots. Just fewer. I'll not be sad when they are all gone though, the coins made my hands feel sooo dirty.
