| The economy is really taking its toll on the supposedly recession-proof industry. First Tropicana files for bankruptcy, now more casinos around the country are doing or thinking of the same thing. Stocks have plummeted for most US based gambling companies. Tough times for US gambling concerns, that's for sure.

| Oh wow, I was not aware of this. Do you have the stock symbols for the casinos that have poor earnings? I wonder how this is affecting casinos that are still in the planning and recently opened stage?

| I hadn't heard about this either, though I'm not so surprised at the news. The economy is just plain awful here, and I think a lot more are going to go out of business before this is all said and done.

| What do they expect? Most businesses in the entertainment sector are going to be hurting if this continues. Many Americans are having to pick between filling the gas tank or eating what they are used to eating - many haven't got the money to think about gambling.

| Let's face it, since recent polls have shown that people are choosing to avoid using fuel, then yes this makes sense. More over, the costs of running a casino have increased because of the increase in fuel costs, that have caused increases in heating and lighting. I never viewed it as recession proof.

| I've seen something about this too. Attendance is down and people are taking vacations closer to home because of the cost of travel. You also have an increasing number of "riverboats" that allow people to stay closer to home. The big places will bounce back but it may take some time.

| If stuff like this continues we are all totally screwed. Whats going to happen when the companies we fully depend on go away (like an ISP when you work online)? I cant help but worry a little, who in their right mind would think this is easy peasy stuff and not worry?

| That worries me too Knacker, although I hadn't thought of my ISP going away. I just worry that the companies I work for will go bankrupt or something. But at least I have several different jobs online, if a person had only one, even if not online, it would be more worrisome.
